Transients update

It has been a wonderful thing to develop these five trios throughout the ongoing 'Transient Tuesday' Bennetts Lane residency, which began on August 2, 2016. This Tuesday 7th February 2017 will be the final one sadly, due to the expected closure of Bennetts Lane. However, the residency will resume when the new Bennetts Lane opens (in Flinders Lane). Date tbc.

In the meantime, following on from the success of the Transients I collaboration with Gian Slater, there will be a 'Clash of the Transients' at Uptown Jazz Cafe March 11, featuring sets by Transients I & V both individually, and then as a quintet! Stephen Magnusson, Julien Wilson, Sam Anning, James McLean, and I will be combining forces!!

Still Night promo video

Devised and led by Andrea Keller Still Night: Music in Poetry centres around a 60-minute song cycle composed by Keller (2016).

Orchestrated for five improvising jazz musicians, including male & female voice, the songs of Still Night draw their text from a selection of poetry that spans centuries and the globe, connected by omnipresent sentiments concerning death, grief and loss.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.

This project is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.

Andrea Keller/Tim Wilson New CD

Andrea Keller & Tim Wilson proudly announce the release of their new cd ‘Consider This’.

Recorded live at Bennetts Lane in 2015, it features 7 original compositions, captured in all their raw beauty.  Here’s some video footage from the night of the recording:

‘Consider This’ is available through Bandcamp ( and will be officially launched at Uptown Jazz Café on Sunday, July 3 (Presented by the Melbourne Jazz Co-op).  Bassist Chris Hale will be joining the duo for the 2nd set.

The project was conceived in 2007 from a mutual respect and love for open, interactive music making, and a desire to create and explore original compositions and improvisations in an intimate duo format.

Having first met when they were both studying at Victorian College of the Arts, Tim and Andrea have been performing together for over 2 decades, in ensembles such as the Paul Williamson Sextet and the Bennetts Lane Big Band.

Farewell AKQ

After 17 years of running the AKQ, I am saying farewell to this project with a final performance on Friday May 13 at Uptown Jazz Cafe, Melbourne.

The timing coincides with Joe's relocation to Japan. Although the band has had several personnel changes throughout its history, the line up with Joe has remained constant for the past 11 years.

The band has achieved beyond my expectations and has formed me in so many ways. Our final gig will be a celebration of all that, with a limited edition 'AKQ Greatest Hits' CD available on the night, through iTunes, and through this website (Recordings tab). The album draws from the bands five CD releases. Limited pressing of 100 discs.
